I have been close to that one morning i took off, the bottom of my boat was covered about three inches deep with small balls of ice. Long icicles hanging off the dock at the boat ramp. .my steering wheel was frozen where i could not turn the boat had to get a catalytic heater run down the steering cables to thaw them out to keep from going in circles. when i cast out and was reeling my line in little balls of ice would form on the line and would soon freeze the line solid in the eyes of my rod. I would have to stick my rod in the water long enough to thaw the eyes of my rod out so i could make another cast.

Yes I have. Lake Alan Henry in Post, Texas. 4 degrees. It was cold enough when you breathed out you could see your breath slowly sink and catch the ice crystals on your glove.

Caught 7 fish that night and my dad and I just laid them on the pier and picked them up frozen 2 hours later.

Yes, I have at a bass tournament on Toledo Bend in January, several years ago. Our hands and lines were freezing up. It was awful to run wide open in that Ranger. I was afraid to wipe my nose for fear it would break off. We fished everything in both boxes and could not get a hit. The only thing left to use were some H&H double blade willow leaf with a yellow and black skirt. My buddy was not going to lower himself to use one of those baits, until I caught a three pounder next to a stump. He asked me if I had anymore after my 2nd bass, and I told him, “ no, I would hate for you, as a professional bass fisherman, to lower your standards.” I have him one and we came in first place with six bass.

Amazing isn’t it? Cheapest spinner bait you can find, and you win a tournament with it. The boat rides are what killed me. The wind was up too, but I’d do it again in a heart beat.

Not quite that cold but I recall my dad and I on a bridge over a small canal. The sac-a-lait were stacked up thick on the bridge and my dad only fished with shiners. :O When the fish are biting that good I reached in that bucket to get a new minnow many times. I was young and couldn't cuss but I wanted to. :)

Still get chills but we had one of our best catches that evening. We ran out of minnows before we ran out if fish!
