Lake Houston Fishing!

Today someone was talking about bating carp with peanut butter and bread.

Made me think of a hot and spicy Indonesian dish called Sate (pronounced Satay) which are skewers of chunked beef, pork or chicken with a hot spicy sauce made from peanut butter. Of course you don’t have to use skewers, and it may be good on fish too (never tried).

Throw some peanut butter into a pot or skillet and gently heat and add some milk and stir until it has a creamy texture. Add to taste some minced onion, garlic, some salt and a squirt of lemon juice and allow to cook in. Add and mix in hot sauce. Serve hot poured sparingly over the meat or fish. Many recipes on web, keyword “Sate recipes”

The normal sauce to use is Sambal Oelek which is available at some larger supermarkets and for sure at the Little Dutch Girl store in Old Town Spring. Caution if using – this stuff can blow a hole in your skull if you use too much! There are several other types of Sambal also available.

Other hot sauces could probably be substituted like Trappey’s or a Habanero sauce like that from Zaaschila.

It’s worth a try if you like hot, spicy stuff that is also guaranteed to cure hangovers!

Funny that you are talking Indian and Oriental. Wife and I just got home from an oriental market, and bought all kinds of curry and spices, fresh veggies, seaweed, mushrooms, and octopus. All kinds of stuff to make weeks worth of asian food at home!

I know the spice very well, My Ex is from Thailand and I have some peanut sauce still in the cabinet. Hong Kong Market is the closest place with a good selection.

Hong Kong Market is where we went!

That's in China Town, right? It's the only area in Houston that has Chinese food that I know of. I haven't seen any Chinese restaurants anywhere else.
